How Sportscape Education nurtures next generation of community coaches on Level 2 Community Activator Coach apprenticeship
At Sportscape Education, we take pride in nurturing the next generation of community coaches.
Our Level 2 Community Activator Coach apprentices are immersed in a comprehensive programme designed to equip them with the skills necessary to make a positive impact in their communities.
Last week, our focus was on preparing for the End Point Assessment (EPA), specifically honing the practical observation element.
The EPA for this course consists of three crucial aspects.
During our latest lesson, we used practical mentoring and teaching methods to guide our apprentices through each stage of the EPA preparation.
This hands-on approach ensures they are well-prepared to excel in their final assessments.
One of the key activities was having each apprentice lead parts of a session, emphasising the importance of learning objectives and health and safety measures during the introduction phase.
It's essential for our future coaches to understand that clear objectives and a safe environment are the foundation of any successful session.
The main skill segment of the lesson focused on adaptation to ability and providing challenges for those who excel. One standout demonstration was by an apprentice who created a football skill zone.
This zone incorporated competitive elements and provided opportunities for participants of all abilities to learn and improve, with constructive feedback given throughout.
This approach not only fostered skill development but also encouraged inclusivity and engagement.
The final section of the session involved a debrief, where we concentrated on signposting and how to effectively do this with different demographics in the community.
Signposting is a vital skill for community activators, ensuring participants are aware of further opportunities and resources available to them.
To conclude, we linked the skills, knowledge, and behaviours (SKBs) discussed throughout the session, helping apprentices understand how to integrate these components into a cohesive and tailored session plan.
We emphasised the use of SMART targets (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Time-bound) to set clear goals for improvement.
At Sportscape Education, we are dedicated to providing our apprentices with the tools and knowledge they need to succeed.
Through practical experience and thorough preparation, our Level 2 Community Activator Coach cohort is well on their way to becoming exceptional community leaders.
