Sportscape Education apprentices warned to improve cyber security to protect their mobile phone data and personal details

Sportscape Education students have been warned about the dangers of not protecting their phones and the importance of cyber security.

At Sportscape Education we believe in giving students a broad range of knowledge.

Part of this comes in the form of our Continual Personal Development or CPD days.

We like to get expert guests in to talk to students about different issues around their future work.

One of our CPD days involved a talk from Detective Constable Andrew Kevan, who is part of the Cyber Crime Team at Cheshire Police.

DC Kevan warned the students that they cannot simply look at their mobiles as just a phone, it’s a mini-computer.

He added that based on this, they needed to take measures to protect what they do on them.

Understanding your phone

For apprentices at Sportscape Education, recognising their phones as mini-computers holds special significance.

As they engage in the industry by communicating with industry contacts, managing schedules and access to work resources on their devices, the data stored on their phones can become a target.

Understanding the vulnerability of this data underscores the need for robust cyber security practices.

The significance of cyber security

Cyber security for phones is not merely a personal concern, it directly impacts the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of information critical to their future job.

By instilling a culture of cyber security awareness among apprentices at Sportscape Education, empowering them to implement best practices such as secure password management, regular software updates, encrypted communication channels, and cautious online behaviour, we ensure that the apprentices are equipped to navigate the digital landscape securely.

Emphasising the importance of cyber security for phones among apprentices not only safeguards their personal information, but also reinforces the institution's commitment to data protection and ethical conduct in the sports industry.

By integrating cyber security education into the curriculum, Sportscape Education prepares its apprentices to excel in a digitally-driven world while upholding the highest standards of confidentiality and integrity.
